Psalm - Psalm 128-130

November 8, 2009 by: shalom

The love of God never fails, for God is love and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God gives us love without condition, so do we also love Him in response?

Let us read Psalms 128 to 130 to see what the psalmist had penned down for our devotion to God and for our meditation.

Bible Passage: Psalms 128 to 130

Fear God and Live

Psalm 128 reminds me of the following passages about the fear of the Lord:

Pro. 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,

And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”

1Tim. 6:6 “Now godliness with contentment is great gain.”

To know how to fear the Lord is all that it takes to live a life of blessings, and these blessings not only can be received in our life time, but will also go on for generations to come.

There is an old motto often placed above fireplaces in Christian homes in the West, and it says,

“The beauty of the house is order; The blessing of the house is contentment; The glory of the house is hospitality; The crown of the house is godliness.”

The Lord Sees and He Shall Judge and Reward

Afflictions are inevitable as we lead our lives as Christians who want to fear the Lord. Our Lord plainly tells us this fact,

So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time–houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions–and in the age to come, eternal life.

Mark 10: 29 - 30

And Paul also reminded this fact to all of us,

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

2Tim. 3:12

But let us take heart, for these afflictions are but temporal, so we must look beyond these afflictions and also those that afflict us in one way or another, and hang on to the promise that Jesus had given us, “and in the age to come, eternal life.”

What A Wonderful Salvation We Have!

Psalm 130 is a wonderful psalm that we can ponder when we are in some form of dire situations, and there are 4 that we can see here.

Try putting ourselves in these 4 situations and learn what it means to put full trust in the mercy of the Lord.

  1. In the depths of turmoil (1-2) - we are overwhelmed by the turmoil and waves of this world, and we are drowning, we can do nothing except to cry out to the Lord.He hears us, and He comes to rescue us out from the depths!
  2. Standing trial for our sins (3-4) - we are on trial for the sins that we have committed, and we have no defense as we have truly done wrongs that are deserving of death. But the King, who is also the Judge pays the penalty on our behalf, and we are freed from death!
  3. In times of seeming despair (5-6) - We are facing defeat, but we know we must wait and hope patiently for the Lord’s help, but it seems like we can never see the morning light. But the Lord will soon shower us with the morning light, strengthening the hope we have in Him!
  4. Bounded in our sins (7-8) - we are captives of our own sins, we are slaves, and a terrible master is about to bring us away into his domain of darkness! But the Savior comes and purchases us with His own blood, and then we are freed from the bondage of sin!

What a wonderful Savior God we have, who through His love and mercy, gives us hope and assurance for our souls. Praise the Lord!

One Response to “Psalm - Psalm 128-130”

  1. PS Says:

Ps 130:4 But there is forgiveness in You that You may be feared.

Our salvation is grace bec God forgives us.

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment. (2 Pet 2:4)

What are men that You consider them at all?

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

This only begotten Son taught us the most beautiful psalm:
    “Our Father in heaven,
    Hallowed be Your name.
    Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
    And forgive our debts,
    As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the knigdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” (Matt 6:9-13)

This beautiful psalm is not only for prayer. It is also to be put into action.

“I am the way, the truth and the life.”

Walk on the way to receive the truth to enter the everlasting life.
